ENSEMBLES

Our most requested ensemble is the string quartet, which consists of two violins, a viola, and a cello. You can add a trumpet soloist for the full effect, or a flute player for a softer mood. We also have smaller groups such as trios and duos, as well as larger orchestras for special events such as theater shows and church services.  Whatever your budget, we will provide you with professional and experienced musicians that will be instrumental in making your event a success!

My name is Laurette McDonald, and I am a violist, violinist, pianist and the founder of Affinity Instrumentals. I have been performing in the Houston area for the past 12 years. An Aggie at heart, I moved from College Station to Houston to pursue a degree in viola performance at the University of Houston Moores School of Music. Along with having an accomplished private viola studio, I have performed with many area quartets, shows, festivals, symphonies and church events. These include The Woodlands, Fort Bend, Lake Jackson, and Brazos Valley Symphonies, Texas Music Festival Orchestra, and Second Baptist Orchestra. I created Affinity Instrumentals as a means of sharing music with my friends, and yours! We will provide you with top quality musicians that will make your event unforgettable.
Our musicians have experience playing for hundreds of weddings, receptions, and other events. Members have music degrees from major universities, and perform regularly with groups such as the Houston Grand Opera and Ballet, Theater Under the Stars, and many of the area's community orchestras and churches. We are experienced in many types of music including classical, fiddle, pops, broadway, and contemporary Christian.

Our music is interchangeable, and you can use it whenever and however you want. It is YOUR special day, and there is no right or wrong way to do it! We can select all of the music for you, or you can choose it yourself to reflect your own tastes. If you don't see your favorite tune, please request it. We can order or arrange it for you.

PRELUDE
The prelude lasts for 15-30 minutes. During this time, our musicians will play a variety of classical instrumentals that will set the tone of your ceremony.

SEATING OF THE FAMILIES
Traditionally, mothers are seated during this time, but some couples choose to seat other family members, such as grandparents.

PROCESSIONAL
Wedding Party:
During this time, the groomsmen and bridesmaids enter. For large wedding parties, two processionals are generally played, one for the men, and one for the ladies.

Bride:
Of course, the most famous is Wagner's Bridal Chorus, but there are many other popular pieces used for the entrance of the bride. Adding a trumpet can command even more attention!

CEREMONY MUSIC
Many couples choose to have music played during the lighting of the unity candle, or during readings.

You've now been pronounced husband and wife! Music played here is joyous and spirited, and allows the wedding party to exit.

WHAT STYLE OF MUSIC DO YOU PLAY?
Our repertoire includes classical standards, broadway tunes, waltzes, pop, tango, sacred, and religious.
DO YOU OFFER CONSULTATIONS?
Absolutely.  If you need help selecting your music, we will arrange a time to discuss it. Consultations are free of charge!
HOW FAR ARE YOUR MUSICIANS WILLING TO TRAVEL?
Travel within Harris county is included in our standard rates. Our musicians will travel to cities close to Houston for an extra fee.  Please contact us for a price quote.
HOW LONG WILL THE CEREMONY LAST?
Most ceremonies last 1 hour, including 15-30 minutes of prelude music before the ceremony, and 30-45 minutes for the ceremony itself. Catholic weddings usually last 1.5 to 2 hours with 30 minutes of prelude music and 60-90 minutes for the ceremony (including communion).
I HAVE A FAVORITE PIECE THAT IS NOT ON YOUR LIST. CAN YOU PLAY IT?
We will make every attempt to accomodate your wishes. If we don't have it, we will try and find an arrangement.  If one is not available, we can arrange it for you for a fee.
CAN THE MUSICIANS ATTEND THE DRESS REHEARSAL?
Our professional musicians have years of experience performing for weddings, and attending the dress rehearsal is unnecessary. However, if it makes you more comfortable, we can attend the rehearsal for a fee.
WHAT IS THE TYPICAL ATTIRE FOR YOUR MUSICIANS?
Unless otherwise requested, our musicians wear all black.
